One of the greatest stories in the Bible is the book of Ruth. No story in the Bible is just a story for the sake of teaching a Sunday School class or something. It's there for a reason, and the book of Ruth is so rich for us. It's set during the time of the Judges. This is a time when Israel is going through these cycles of rebellion against God, and then God punishing them, and then they repent and come back to him, and in the midst of that time of darkness, that time of difficulty, is set this brilliant diamond of the book of Ruth, and in Ruth we see an example such as Boaz, who is a law-abiding worshiper of God. We see Ruth, who receives the grace of God, and through the sovereignty of God, which is a major theme of the book, the two of them are brought together, and in the overall, overarching picture of Scripture, they become the great grandparents of King David, who is the forerunner of Messiah.
