When considering Christianity, one of the biggest questions, and it is a weighty question that people have, is why does God show wrath to some and mercy to others? And immediately, we have now placed ourselves in the position of judging God, but the fact is is that God is sovereign, he decides, and he alone has the right to decide to whom he will show wrath and to whom he will show mercy. This is Romans chapter 9, the classic passage which tells us that God makes that choice, some are vessels of wrath, some are vessels of his mercy. Perhaps a better question to ask is, given the absolute heinous, destructive, disgusting, sinful blackness of the hearts of humanity, why would God show mercy to anyone? And the answer to that question is found in the person of Jesus Christ, for his sake, and for the sake of his coming kingdom, God shows mercy to a future kingdom citizenship.
