Sometimes the question is asked, "Why does God seem so severe in some of His punishments, "for example in the Bible?" Well, that question is actually based on a faulty assumption, and that is that I somehow am able to judge what God aught or aught not to do. The fact is, that this is His creation. Everything in the world belongs to Him, Psalm 24, Verse One says that "The earth is the Lord, and the fullness thereof." And so He has the right to do with His creation anything He pleases. Not only does the creation belong to Him, but the creation has rebelled against Him, this is a sinful creation. And so He has a right to do all that He wants. He may kill, He may make alive. That's what the Book of Deuteronomy says is His right. And so before we question God and His severity, we need to bow and submit to His other complete sovereignty.
