One thing that you can look for in a local church if you're on a search for a church or frankly if you're praying about your own church becoming a little bit more faithful. A healthy church is nothing if it isn't reliant on the Lord. And how do you know a church is reliant on the Lord? Well, there's a couple of basic ways, at the very top of that list has to be it's attitude toward and it's practice of preaching. Is the preached word the absolute top priority of the church? And I'm not talking about cute little stories, I'm talking about preaching that digs into the word of God and in an expository fashion, such that your mind is just filled with the knowledge of God. That is the first and foremost way that the church is reliant on Christ. But then is your church a church of prayer? Are there opportunities to pray? Do your leaders lead in prayer? Do they lead for many opportunities in prayer? So, look for those two things to be a reliant church.
