You know, as a parent, we've all been in that situation where you perhaps have one child who seems very, very easy and then the next one comes along and absolutely won't do anything that you say and your sanctification, your love for the Lord is tested to the limits because you just don't know what to do with that child. And so what do you do when you have that sort of child in a situation where they just seem so strong-willed and so determined to sin? Well, you do two things. First of all, you don't give up and discipline them. You discipline them according to scripture, according to Proverbs and you continue and you don't give up and don't give up. But the second thing you do, and this is really your primary job as a parent and that is to give them the gospel, continually point out their own sin, point out the glories of the cross and how Jesus wants to forgive them of all of their sins. So you discipline their sin, you point out their sin and you love them unconditionally.
