God basically has one goal, if we can put it that way, and that is His own glory. And while we, as sinful human beings, almost find that distasteful to say, the fact is, is that God is perfect, He is holy, He is mighty, He is all-powerful, He is all-knowing, He is the Creator God. He alone deserves all glory. And so, when the Lord Jesus prayed in John 17 for the Father to glorify Him, even as He has glorified the Father, no one could ever accuse Jesus of being selfish, because the fact is, Jesus, as God, fully God, completely deserves glory. In fact, the book of Revelation, multiple times, says that to Jesus Christ belong glory and honor, and power, and might, and wealth, and majesty. They all belong to Him, because He is perfect, because He is sinless. So the ultimate thing we can do as Christians is to ascribe glory to God.
