I know that in our economy, sometimes it feels very hard to provide for a family, and if you're a man who's trying to provide for your family, and it seems that the only opportunity you have is one that makes you travel quite a bit, I can't tell you there isn't a hard and fast rule how much travel is sinful and how much is okay. But I can tell you what your other responsibilities are.

You're responsible, first of all, to love your wife, to cherish her, to spend time with her. You're responsible to raise your children, to be there, to discipline them, to bring them up in the admonition of the Lord. and you're responsible to serve in your local church, to be an influence, to be one that serves Christ by serving God's people.

So if you can take care of those three responsibilities to the satisfaction of your wife, to the satisfaction of your children, and to the satisfaction of those you serve alongside and your job still takes you to some travel, then that's a judgment call you have to make. I would urge you, though, to pray to be able to be home as much as possible. That is one of two safe places that God has ordained on this earth in the sinful world, the home and the church. And you need to be there as much as you can.
