When I was a kid, it was presented to me very often in the church circles I grew up in that in order to serve Christ you need to either be a pastor or a missionary. Now ironically, I ended up as a pastor, but that's not necessary to serve Christ. The fact is, we're called to serve Christ in every walk of life. I was also told as a child that the greatest way to serve, to do these things that might bring you to the brink of death and, while we understand that God has called certain Christians to martyrdom, and we praise him for his wisdom in that even as we grieve their loss, the fact is that God has called you to serve wherever you are. You may be a stay-at-home mom with little babies, and it's your job to serve with all of your heart, to tell the gospel to those babies. You may be a young man working in a job you don't particularly like, but it's your job to do that job in a way that's pleasing to the Lord. Yes, serve everywhere.
