Many in the Christian world still profess to believe or to practice the gift of prophecy. That they hear words from God or impressions from God that they are then prepared to give out to others. Or they listen to them. And there are whole churches that build their entire culture around this.

It's interesting to me though that the apostles who did practice the prophetic gifts and all the wondrous, miraculous gifts, that over the course of time, those decreased even for them. The Apostle Paul left people in need of healing rather than healing them. So it's tempting to want to take that shortcut and say, God told me something, but the fact is you have no idea who that was speaking to you. We have one source of prophetic wisdom, and that is from Scripture and Scripture alone. And so it's so important that if you want to know truth, you only go to the Bible. There's no other source of truth. And that's it. Because people who believe that they're receiving prophecies from God across the board are more excited about that than about the hard work of opening their Bibles and learning what it says.
