In our current environment in the world, there are many who think that having borders, having nations, is inherently a bad thing. If you look at Scripture, though, I could point to two reasons why it's not a bad thing.
First of all, God ordained nations all the way from the Garden of Eden. He named nations. Eden itself is a national name. He names a nation called Havilah, a land. And so nations begin in Scripture, they also end in Scripture, all the way at the very end of the Bible.
On new earth, we see new Jerusalem and nations bringing their glory, bringing their wares to present to God. So nations are start to finish in Scripture. But the other way we know that nations are God's will is that in Scripture, particularly in prophecy, the idea of a one world government, a borderless world, is considered evil. In fact, this is a goal that Antichrist will have, is to erase all borders so that he is king over the whole world. So even when the Lord Jesus Christ is reigning as king over the world, he is called the king of all the kings, meaning there are nations.
